I gloss over my stroke, but I hear so many stories of people both older and younger than me who weren\u2019t as lucky. I\u2019m fortunate I can still speak (albeit delayed), walk, drive, work (design on the computer), shower by myself again, cut my own nails\u2026 things I def took for granted. Before the stroke, I\u2019d never stayed overnight at a hospital, let alone a whole week, and my doctor visits were few and far between. I\u2019d never had surgery, and I had two that week – one on my birthday! S\/O to Nicholas at Torrance Memorial<\/a> who sang \u2018Happy Birthday\u2019 to me on the operating table, right before he shaved my chocha \ud83d\ude05 Now I see my PCP every few months to make sure i\u2019m not regressing.<\/p>\n

Anyway, I\u2019m (mostly) happy to still be here \ud83d\ude05 Pammie has been my biggest advocate since the stroke, and took care of me for over a year while I recovered. She works for iRhythm<\/a> – a company that detects cardiac arrhythmias through a medical device, and her work participated in the Heart & Stroke Walk<\/a> this morning. She invited me to join to celebrate being a stroke survivor \u270a\ud83c\udffc She surprised me by making us shirts (Jessie came up with the tagline bc everyone knows I love Young the Giant<\/a> – Christine suggested we wear The Strokes<\/a> band shirts LOL, but Pammie thought it wasn’t very PC – next year!), and they all surprised me by showing up this morning \ud83e\udd79<\/p>\n

I don’t really tell anyone about having the stroke unless I have to. It’s not something I ever posted about on socials for sympathy. Unless you’re one of the 3 people who still reads this blog after 20 years (hi, Shirley May \ud83d\udc4b\ud83c\udffc), are a relative, a good friend, or someone I’ve seen in the past couple years since the stroke and I felt compelled to explain why my voice sounds like this now, you wouldn’t really know about it.<\/p>\n
