I went to Grossmont today to get my brows threaded. I used to get my brows done here 20 years ago, and I haven’t found a new brow lady (or nail lady) near me downtown since I moved back to SD, so I thought I’d revisit my old stomping grounds.

I used to work at the bank across the street when it was Washington Mutual – it’s still a bank, but it’s Chase now. There was construction and scaffolding throughout the mall, but Super Brows was still there, along with Jamba Juice, Panda Express, Rubio’s and the movie theatre. Barnes and Noble was boarded up and closed, though. End of an era! I used to spend hours at this Barnes and Noble – writing papers for school, when you still needed actual books and couldn’t look up everything on the internet or use ChatGBT – ‘the 1900s’ as the kids say.

I used to treat myself to coffee and a sweet treat at the Starbucks inside the Barnes and Noble. I remember one time I was so excited to eat my pastry, I opened the bag in my then-boyfriend’s car and it was empty. My first thought: Did this fucker eat my chocolate croissant? We traced our steps back to the now-closed Starbucks and I saw my croissant on the floor of the parking lot. Turns out I was holding the bag upside down and the pastry fell out without me noticing 😅

Obviously, I haven’t changed much since that pastry incident, but this mall sure has 😮‍💨
