I used to hate island music – then I went to Kauai 7 years ago and it altered my brain chemistry. I love Hawaiian/Reggae covers of songs now, especially songs I didn’t particularly care for before (except Sade’s By Your Side – I’ve always loved that song 🥹 I said it would be my wedding song when it came out in 2000 😅 26 years later, I’m still not married, but I still love that song).
When I worked in the office, I’d visit Nori in her office and she was usually playing a Hawaiian radio station (unless she was super busy, then she’d play a Spanish radio station LOL – She’s Japanese on her dad’s side and Mexican on her mom’s side). Maoli’s cover of Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me was playing a few different times I went to her office, and I was like, ‘Is this our song?’ 🤣
