Renew.

I got a lease renewal reminder in my email, and I thought, WTF? My lease isn’t up for another 4 months. Apparently, they require a 60-day notice if you’re moving out, and if you don’t respond by the time your lease is up, your rent goes to a month-to-month lease at a rate of $6,274/month!

I was going to let the Padres and City decide whether I’m staying or not, but it looks like I have to make a decision before the postseason and before the park is finished. I braced myself when I logged into the resident portal to find out what my new lease rate was going to be (since that month-to-month rate was so fucking outrageous), and it’s lower than what I expected. Like, low enough to not deal with the inconvenience of moving – packing, finding a new apartment, paying a new deposit, hiring movers (it cost me $2K to move my shit from LA).

You guys, I hate moving. I lived in the same LA apartment for 13 years – I hated my first asshole landlord (yeah, I’m talking to you, Leonard!), but loved the landlord after him, Reggie, who replaced our leaky roof, fixed the elevator, removed the popcorn from my ceiling, remodeled my bathroom, and was an absolute peach to deal with. It was a nightmare when I first moved in – the hot water didn’t work for weeks and I had to shower in a vacant apartment on a different floor on the other side of the building. The elevator was broken when I moved in, and the landlord assured me it was getting fixed, but I ran into my chatty neighbor soon after I moved in, and he said the elevator had been broken for 10 months! And I lived on the top floor. I stuck it out, and eventually the building was sold to a landlord who actually cared about his tenants. Things just always work out for me, it may take 10 years, but shit always works out eventually…

So if I stay another year, maybe the park across the street will finally be done getting built, and the Padres will win the World Series 🤪

I saw this insta reel before the season started from this guy who claimed he heard a secret from his neighbor’s cousin’s friend’s uncle in the sports industry that meant good news for the Padres. I immediately googled if Shohei died 😆 Alas, he’s still alive and well and hitting homers. He just had another baby last week, so I googled how long he’d be on paternity leave, and he only missed one game. I’ve had cups in my room longer than that.
