One thing I miss about LA is having lunch with my work bestie, Nori, and catching up on the chisme over coffee. But no amount of square footage or ocean views can make me go back to being in office. You guys, I lived two miles from the beach on Manhattan Beach Blvd for thirteen years, and I can count on two hands how many times I went to the beach 😅

I’d rather doordash my Horchata Cold Brew Oat Latte, while I work in my chonies and my dog looks out the window and judges the people walking downtown 😆

Catherine O’Hara passed away today, and I am unwell 😔

She is at the center of some of my favorite childhood movies – Beetlejuice, Home Alone… and more recently, I binged every season of Schitt’s Creek multiple times throughout the pandemic.

Update: Found Gallagher Square’s schedule, and apparently these pickleball courts are open to the public. I won’t be using the pickleball courts LOL, but I will be using this schedule. I’ve walked Milo all the way to Petco Park to have the gates be closed sometimes. ‘If only there was a schedule posted somewhere,’ I thought 😅

One of my ex’s (who’s now married to Shi’s friend from high school) tore his ACL playing pickleball 👴🏻 We don’t need to run into him on our daily walks 😅

#1 is training for a marathon, so she hit 125 miles way before any of us, and #10 is an Emmy-winning producer in LA, so she probably doesn’t have the time or need the bragging rights 😜

I also stop by Starbucks for an iced coffee. There were a couple other dogs inside today whose owners all ordered them pup cups. ‘Pup cup for Kevin,’ said the barista while looking straight at me. A lady picked up the pup cup, so Kevin was obvi the dog. I felt they were judging me for ordering myself a sweet treat and nothing for my dog. You guys, I ordered him his very first (and last) pup cup from this very Starbucks last week. He took one lick and didn’t care for it. I also tried to break him off a piece of my lemon & blueberry cookie, and he just sniffed at it and left it on the grass. He doesn’t like any sweets! Like, are you not my son? 😅

Anyway, while I was at Starbucks, Jeff Buckley’s ‘Last Goodbye’ played over the speakers and I was transported back to college. I had this art instructor (who I had a major crush on) and this was his favorite song. I googled him when I got home and found his IG – he’s a professor in Nor Cal now, is (twice!) divorced, has a few kids and a dog who’s also named Milo. He was always kind of an asshole, so I’m not surprised he’s been divorced a couple times, but I think we’ve established I like assholes 😅

I once was involved with this guy who worked for Homeland Security. He asked me to help him design a challenge coin for ICE – This was over 10 years ago, when I didn’t even know what ICE was. He gave me one of the finished products, and I’ve kept it over the years bc of sentimental value, but fuck that guy and fuck ICE. I don’t want anyone who sees it mixed in with my jewelry in my bathroom to question why I have a fucking ICE coin. It goes in the trash today ✌🏼

Milo and I both got vaccinations this weekend 😆

I took him to the vet yesterday, and they took him in the backroom to give him his vaccines. I heard a dog constantly barking back there and wasn’t sure if it was him bc I’ve never heard him bark before (he has only yelped when I’ve accidentally stepped on him 😅). The tech came back with him and said he did great. The dog that was barking wasn’t him and was still barking when she brought him back! She was a literal bitch named Ruby 🤪

I also got my flu vaccine and covid booster today (better late than never!). I’ve never had any adverse reactions to vaccines or drugs of any kind, and Milo seems the same. He remains the goodest boi 🥹

I always put hella olives on my pizza, and I always google if dogs can eat something first before giving Milo scraps.

‘High sodium’? ‘High fat content?’ Should I be eating olives??? 😅

When we were at the Wild Horses Festival, Abe asked me what my favorite concert was. Without hesitation, I said, ‘Tame Impala at the Hollywood Bowl. He named a few, but most memorable was when he smoked out Sister Nancy at The Observatory North Park 😶‍🌫️

He knew the last time I was at Petco was for Dia de los Deftones, so he asked me what my favorite Deftones album was. Though my Deftones playlist pulls from all their albums, the most songs are from Diamond Eyes.

His was White Pony, of course. He said he could listen to the album from beginning to end without skipping a track. If I knew he was a fan, I would’ve invited him to go with me to Dia de los Deftones. Well, if he wasn’t married to one of my best friends 😅 Just kidding – I still would’ve invited him! I’ve been to concerts alone with Christine’s husband, too 😆 Your girl’s trustworthy as fuck!

I had leftover filling and wonton wrappers from making the ground chicken dumpling lasagna yesterday, so I made chili oil wontons today. I haven’t had wontons or dumplings since I gave up pork bc they’re usually filled with pork out in the wild.

I got boba in case my meal wasn’t Asian enough. I walked to The Bon Cha with Milo, so I earned that boba! Get off me.

Like his mama, Milo only wakes up for 8’s and above 😜

All I wanted to eat for my birthday was this viral crab rangoon I’ve been seeing all over instagram. It was def worth the hype! Christine found a hack: There are two Slurp locations inside Liberty Public Market – Slurp LPM and Slurp Taiyaki & Ramen. The LPM location always has long ass lines, but you can order the crab rangoon from the Ramen location even though it’s not on their menu. We were there in the afternoon and were able to get several orders (which we devoured!), but Shi tried to get another order to take home to her husband before we left after 6p, and they were sold out! So def go early and hit up the Ramen location to save time.

I met the girls at Liberty Public Market and we made a picnic out of it. Chel brought canned cocktails, and we were all able to find something to eat in the food hall. I brought Milo, and he met Christine and her kids for the first time. Love, love, love these girls and this space.

Shi was showing me all the tried and true viral recipes she’s successfully made, and I had to try them myself! I instacarted all the ingredients I needed last night and made Dumpling Lasagna and Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake.

I followed this recipe, but omitted the ginger (bc I hate ginger) and used ground chicken instead of pork (bc I’m still porkless in more ways than one). I topped it with Momofuku Chili Crunch and it was *chef’s kiss*. I’ll def be making it again!

This viral Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake is only 2 ingredients – plain Greek yogurt and Biscoff cookies. Add Biscoff cookies to anything, and I’ll eat it! I prefer real cheesecake, but it’s a good sub if you’re trying to have a healthier dessert.

Update 1/20/26: Was craving something sweet after dinner and almost crumbled Biscoff cookies over vanilla ice cream, but thought against it and had a healthier piece of japanese yogurt cheesecake instead. It tasted better than it did yesterday. Now I can go to bed without hating myself 😅

Living in LA in 2016, it was easy to go to shows. I would decide hours before a show that I was going, buy an overpriced ticket off stubhub, take an uber to the show, and silently cry by myself at a John Mayer concert alone. Just kidding (I would sob pretty loudly).

Now that I’m back in SD a decade later, I’m a little more choosy with the shows I go to, but I’ll splurge on VIP tickets 🤑

There’s this dog who lives next to my sister’s house who I always used to greet when I stayed at her house after the stroke. IDK her real name, but I’d call her ‘Lucille’ (I have names for all the neighborhood dogs). One time, Christine dropped me off, and I stopped to say hi to Lucille before going into the house, and Christine was like, ‘Who are you talking to?’ LOL Lucille, duh 💁🏻‍♀️ I have never once heard her bark or whine, but today, I introduced her to Milo, and heard her growl for the first time ever.

Why do these videos always find me when I’m on my period?

I was today-years-old when I found out that Petco Park is open to the public when they don’t have events or baseball games. There’s security guards roaming the property to keep out the riffraff, and the stadium is only a 10-minute walk from my apartment, so I’ll be walking Milo here in the offseason ⚾️ (@ Gallagher Square)

The only reason I’m not in last place is bc Mel hasn’t started yet 😅 I walked Milo 3x today, but I guess I need to take longer walks. I just walk him around my block bc the closest park is ‘unsafe’ and littered with ‘drug paraphernalia’ 😅 At night time, I walk him in our gated subgarage bc the East Village is generally unsafe when the sun goes down. Do I need to move to the ‘burbs now that I’m a dog mom???

On a positive note, 3 people called Milo ‘cute’ on our walks today, he did his business outside like a good boi, and I finally found dog food this picky eater likes – JustFoodForDogs Turkey & Whole Wheat Macaroni. Chicken makes him itch like crazy, he didn’t care for the Blue Buffalo Salmon & Brown Rice dog food, he won’t eat the freshpet Beef & Egg dog food, he loves when I make him real steak and eggs, but I can’t be making him that shit for breakfast every day while your girl eats fucking oatmeal! He doesn’t like apples, bananas, blueberries, carrots, celery, cucumbers, or peanut butter 😅 So I’m glad I finally found dog food he will eat.

Milo has been rubbing his face, scratching his ears, and licking his paws, so I think he might be allergic to chicken. I brought it up to the vet, and she said that most dog allergies are to protein, so changing up his food might help. The more exotic the protein, the less chance he’ll be allergic to it. She suggested trying lamb, and I nodded, but in my head I was thinking, ‘I’ve never even had lamb. I don’t eat baby animals and neither will my dog’ LOL. So I’ve just been feeding him beef products, and he seems to be doing better.

I have hella chicken dog food if anyone wants it for their pupper 🐔

I also bought him some allergy chews, but he doesn’t like to eat them by itself, so I’ve been hiding them in his food. Add it to the list of food he doesn’t like: apples, blueberries, carrots, celery, and cucumbers 😅

I thought I could hide them in homemade dog biscuits instead, so I baked some today, and this picky boi loved it! Yes, I’ve made dog biscuits before, and yes, I already had a bone cookie cutter 🤪

He’s so good on his leash – He doesn’t pull, doesn’t react to other dogs, doesn’t bark, always waits to poop outside, knows where he lives (he always stops when we get to my building entrance, and I always have to tell him we’re not done walking yet LOL and when we get out of the elevator, he knows the way to my apartment). He really is the goodest boi despite his abandonment issues 🥹

Today was my first day back to work after being on holiday break the past couple of weeks. I work from home, so I just work on my laptop on the dining table, but this stage 5 clinger always has to have eyes on me, so he slept behind me on the couch while I worked, waking up periodically to make sure I was still there 😅

Any more tips on getting needy dogs to be less needy are appreciated! He needs to be able to be ok being left with other people so mama can still go to concerts and travel 😅

Chel’s kid was selling all his Funko Pops to fund this summer program at UCSD where you get to stay in the dorms and earn college credits. He’s just a freshman in high school! When I was his age (LOL 👵🏻), I was more interested in boys and makeup than the future 😅

Since the party was football-themed, wearing jerseys was encouraged. SD doesn’t have a football team anymore, and the only jersey I own is an old Merriman jersey (bought before the Chargers left SD and before Merriman famously choked Tila Tequila, but unfortunately not before he got that stupid ‘lights out’ tattoo). Since Merriman’s so controversial, Pammie let me borrow her LT jersey, but who knew my mom would show up in the most offensive jersey ever – an MLB LA Dodgers jersey! Actually, the most offensive getup there was worn by a relative on my cousin’s husband’s side – He was wearing a fucking Raiders jersey and a Dodgers hat.

Luckily, I was too busy indulging in the taco bar to get too riled up 😆

The first time I went to NYC (20 years ago!), I went to Supreme to get my hypebeast friends souvies. I saw a mini silver Nike Dunk on a ball chain necklace and was like, ‘How much is this?’ And the guy was like, ‘Two-Fifty.’ And I was like, ‘$2.50???
